The Guard
1991, Baghdad
Oil on canvas
120 x 120 cm
The work was exhibited at my first solo titled “Documents of a Museum Visits’’. After Iraq was bombed by the USA 1991. It took around 2 months to conduct it, because there was no electricity, therefore I had to work just in the morning.
I think there are two photos of the opening of the exhibit at which Layla Al Attar is in front of the work. She was the director of the centre at that time. I will check the photos.
There is in the top of the work pixel sign which needs to be deciphered, as there was neither internet nor computer in Iraq in that time. It looks like there is some prediction of looting the museum in 2003. As the person is the Guard.
